Skate Ontario has developed a standardized best practice Concussion Policy for the sport of figure skating in Ontario. This policy is not age dependent, all skaters, coaches, officials, and volunteers must be treated in the same manner. This policy can be downloaded in PDF format from our website or by visiting the Skate Canada website.
Coaches’ rates will vary based on qualifications and experience. On average, for a 15 minute private lesson, rates may range anywhere between $11.00 and $15.00. Additionally, rates may vary if there is more than one person in the group (semi private or group instruction) and length of the lesson (10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes or more). If you are unsure, be sure to ask the coach for their fee schedule before committing to lessons.
Typically, one would check to see if the coach is available on the sessions they are planning to skate on. If you are interested in a specific coach, check their availability first, and then try to register for those sessions. If skating on a certain day is more important, register for the session and then check with the coach, or the Club office for coach availability.
Note: Please check out our Coaches’ availability which can now be found in the “Coaches” section of our site along with their respective bios.
All coaches are required to be registered with Skate Canada, the governing body of skating in Canada. This ensures that they are qualified as professional coaches, hold a current first aid certificate, are screen checked and insured through Skate Canada.
The standard qualification levels are mandated by the Coaches Association of Canada and are based on the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Coaches are designated through certification as CanSkate coaches or NCCP Levels (1-5). As a point of reference you need to be Level 4 to coach at an Olympic games.
